We’re All In

Lawrence County Schools are teaming with local business and industry to demonstrate the importance of graduation of ALL students of our community.  Schools and Business Graduation Alliance was unveiled at the annual Chamber of Commerce meeting in October.  The alliance is not necessarily a financial commitment from the business; however there are ways that a partner can contribute to the new initiative.  A business can sign on to the program by simply providing time for employees to become tutors and/or mentors with students.  Another thing that has zero cost is by adding information about parent teacher conferences, progress reports, report cards, and other student information to newsletters, bulletins, and mail outs as well as marquee signs.  Businesses can post an alliance sticker on their doors showing support as well as display a framed alliance certificate.

With hard work and dedication of Lawrence County Schools over the past four years, the local graduation rate has improved significantly.  The 2008 graduation rate was 82%.  In 2010 our rate increased to 90% which was a tremendous improvement.  Striving for excellence in education, the 2012 graduation rate of Lawrence County Schools increased to 96%!

Communications Director of Lawrence County Schools, Shannon Watson, states, “The teachers, administrators, and students of Lawrence County Schools have proven that hard work and dedication does pay off.  The Schools and Business Graduation Alliance is an extra effort to encourage the importance of graduating while raising Lawrence County Schools’ graduation rate to an even higher level.  Partnering with our local business community is yet another example of the outstanding support of the students of Lawrence County and that WE’RE ALL IN!”  For more information or to join the Schools and Business Graduation Alliance contact Shannon Watson at 762-9412 extension 4135.
