Honor a Former Teacher by Adopting A Teacher!

Think for a moment of a teacher that made a huge difference in your life……a teacher like Mrs. Betty Johnston that would tell you every day that she was going to put you in her pocket and take you home with her…..a teacher like Mrs. Juanita Thigpen that first taught you the human skeleton to prepare you for your nursing career…..a teacher like Mrs. Francis Brown Rayfield that finally taught you how to multiply and divide fractions….. Wouldn’t it be nice to convey a message to those former teachers or former teacher’s family of how they impacted your life while showing current Lawrence County teachers you appreciate them?

Lawrence County Schools is pleased to announce the new Adopt-A-Teacher program that does just that!  Honor a former teacher or administrator by contributing funds for a teacher appreciation program for the current educators of Lawrence County.  The goal of the program is to have 700 teachers adopted for $25.00 each in order to develop a “sunshine fund” for our educators.  Adopters are more than welcome to adopt & honor more than one person.

In business and industry, companies have funds to purchase motivating gifts for their employees to show them how important they are, what a great job they are doing, and that their efforts go unnoticed.  A thank you as simple as a candy bar & coke, a portfolio to carry to meetings, business cards, or a company shirt would be an amazing reward for our teachers.  A fund such as this does not exist within a school system, therefore the creation of the Adopt-a-Teacher program for Lawrence County Schools is an initiative that is long overdue and will pay off greatly in the end.

An Adopt-A-Teacher form can be downloaded from the LCSS website, www.lcss.us and can also be picked up at the Board of Education and from each school.  Each person adopting a teacher will be given a window sticker for their car to display their support of this effort and an acknowledgement card will be sent to the educator you are honoring or to the family of a former educator you are remembering.  Adopters will not identify a specific current teacher he or she is wishing to adopt, however he or she may be listed as the teacher(s) they wish to honor.

Together the citizens of Lawrence County can make this effort happen for our teachers.  Please contact Shannon Watson at 762-9412 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with any questions or to request an Adopt-A-Teacher form.
