WELCOME

Greetings from the Lawrence County School System!

On behalf of Mr. Kevin Carsuo, Chairman of the Lawrence County Board of Education, members of the Board of Education, and the nearly 900 dedicated men and women of the Lawrence County School System and the nearly 7,000 students of LCSS thank you for visiting our website, but most of all, thank you for entrusting your sons and daughters to our care. At this moment, we find ourselves moving further and further from the Covid Pandemic while continuing to provide our students a quality education, opportunities, and resources for them and to the dedicated men and women of LCSS who play a significant role in the lives of our children. Yet, we find ourselves in another unprecedented time in history, one of transition with the state funding model, a decline in men and women entering the noble profession of education, and a time of change in our nation. With all the change happening, the one constant in all of the uncertainty is the desire to provide our students with a quality education that prepares them for success in the 21st century. Serving nearly 7,000 students with nearly 3,000 riding buses to and from school daily, and nearly 7,500 meals offered to students per day, LCSS prides itself in setting a course for academic excellence and Making a Difference in the lives of those we serve-our students!

As Director of Schools, I want to assure you that your school system has taken considerable effort, energy, resources, and time planning, so we can provide the children of Lawrence County the best educational opportunities possible. Historic federal dollars have been awarded to the Lawrence County School System. I believe LCSS invested those dollars in a way that directly impacts and benefits students, faculty, and parents. I eagerly await the final data to support my belief. In the meantime, I would like to share a few of the many accomplishments of the Board of Education and the dedicated men and women of LCSS have earned in the past few years.

  • Ranked 30th of 144 school districts with Total Proficiency for 3rd Grade ELA!

  • 1 of 67 districts in the state to be recognized as a Best for All District!

  • A Read 360 District!

  • One of the highest in the state for participation in TCAP examinations!

  • One of the top districts in the state concerning graduation rates with a 95.45% for the Class of 2023!

  • A leader in CTE and Industry Certification with over 1,500 students earning certification in various fields of study!

  • System wide facility improvements!

  • Creation of a new middle school at Summertown.

  • Established School Based Therapist and Social Workers to assist the needs of LCSS.

  • Creation of a future administrator program.

  • Interventionist positions in the lower grades to address academic needs.

It is evident that our students are guided by world-class educators who are committed to student success during their time in our schools, but are equally committed to their success post elementary, middle, and high school. The classroom, like the workforce, is constantly evolving and we aim to make sure that our 7,000 students are prepared for whatever career path they choose. It is our mission to prepare ALL students for college and career readiness. Our work would not be possible without the dedication of our phenomenal teachers, support staff, students, and parents. We are also fortunate to have unyielding support from community leaders, community members, and business leaders. This partnership coupled with the guidance of our Board of Education helps foster the belief that educators are truly difference makers in the lives of their students.

Once again, thank you for entrusting LCSS with your most precious commodity, the children of Lawrence County, to our care.

Sincerely,

Mr. Michael Adkins, Ed. S.
